Great to see the club and its members recognised at the Surf Life Saving Illawarra Awards of Excellence night at the Portofino Function Centre in Wollongong with 6 winners, 1 runner -up & 3 highly commended awards going the maroon & gold way.
First up it was our young 'beachie' Ashley Dribbus won collected the Junior Female Athlete of the Year (8-14yrs).
Next it was our two of our senior surf sports stars, namely Hannah Minogue & Mitchell Fagerstrom who collected the respective Female & Male Surf Sports Athlete of the Year. Dave Greene was then announced as a worthy winner of the Surf Sports Official of the Year.
The club received the Surf Sports Club of the Year title for its outstanding display at the 2012 Illawarra Branch Championships where our members completely dominated the combined junior & senior point-score winning over 200 medals.
3 of our members also collected high commendations in their respective categories; Lachlan O'Grady (Young Male Surf Sports Athlete 15-19yrs), Bridgette Lockhart (Young Female Surf Sports Athlete 15-19yrs) & our Open Mens Boat Crew (Paul Jones, Dan Porra, Heath Mercer, Ben Lowe, Dean Roberts) in the Surf Sports Team of the Year.
A big congratulations goes to our patrolling members and lifesaving team for their efforts during the year with the club finishing a close runner-up in the Illawarra Patrol Effeciency Competition.
To cap the night off Sean Taylor was announced Junior Activity Volunteer of the Year.
Well done to all of the Illawarra lifesavers who received nominations & to those who collected awards on the night, all richly deserved for their volunteer work. Well done to our southern neighbours Woonona SLSC on winning Club of the Year.
