Good Luck to our Surf Sports Athletes this weekend
This weekend is a busy time for our surf sports athletes with our boaties racing in the 2nd round of the South Coast Boat Series at Corrimal on the Saturday.
Our Men's A crew will be out for some revenge on arch rivals Austinmer who gained selection in the Illawarra Branch Team as the men's boat crew. How this was decided is a bit of a joke with both Bulli & Austinmer 1 win each from the first round of the South Coast Boat Series (Bulli won at Woonona) and the Mollymook carnival (Austinmer finished 3rd & Bulli 5th)...so they are 1 win apiece and usually the selectors have taken in the Ocean Thunder Series into account because Austinmer have gone better than our guys......but not this year as our guys sit 5th in the point-score against some of the best crews in Australia and Austinmer are not in it....go figure? There is the round this weekend at Corrimal and the crew selection could have been done there.....who ever wins...well they make it...common sense it seems but not in some eyes.
Good luck to the rest of our crews won encountered some messy & big surf at Mollymook last weekend, our U19's guys finished 2nd & our Reserve Crew (former A crew rowers) finished 4th. Our U23 girls crew had their first competitve row and safely safely by our experienced sweep Paul Jones got them home in the final...unplaced but they finished!
Our Surf/Craft/Beach team will contest the final round of the Sydney Water Series at Warilla after last week's round was cancelled at North Wollongong. Some of our senior guys & girls have been racing consistantly well in the series including Mitchell Fagerstrom, Hannah Minogue, Beau Wheeler, Lachlan O'Grady & Jamie Brinkworth. Our U15's are also enoying the racing & putting up some good performances along with the rest of our U17 girls & guys.
Most of the senior squad will also be racing on Sunday at Terrigal in the final round of the East Coast Surf Festival after last week's efforts at Dixon Park where some great results were obtained. Hannah Minogue winning the Open Female Ski & she then teamed with Mitch Fagerstrom & Beau Wheeler and they won the Open taplin Relay just to name a few.
Good luck to everybody.
